IEVA STANKUTÉ
About the belly button
About the belly button is a project-book about mothers and a journey through their daily lives. In this book you can find a very wide range of topics and it can be discovered that mom’s life is very colorful, with a full palette of colors – both dark and light. Each chapter is a new journey into a different moment in the life of a mother and child. After reading this book even a person who does not have children can feel what it means to be a mother. In this work, Stankuté wanted to talk about topics that aren’t so enjoyable, revealing more aspects of motherhood in my work, with all its shortcomings and difficulties, but also the joys accordingly. Not only songs, hugs and the child’s sweetness, but also fatigue, illness and messy homes. Social media paints a picture that mom never gets angry and doesn’t get tired, that this kind of mom is perfect. The young Lithuanian artist wants to deny this, because for her it is the multicolored mother who is perfect.
