CÉDRIC RACCIO, Hyperobjects

The new excessive habit of consuming and producing images, which generates an anxious visual pollution, but also offers a multitude of visions, a discovery of unexplored territories, and an opening to the world. Technology – including social media – is omnipresent in the creation and dissemination of images. However, it has also changed our way of learning and may have a positive effect on human progress. It is in this context that the humanist Lorenzo Tomasin highlights the impact of technology and computers on our educational and cultural system, and how this has changed our relationship to images. The artist started combining hundreds of personal and artistic photos stored on my mobile phone, adding transformation effects to them. The resulting images are then used to build sculptures that he calls «totemic trophies,» witnesses to our digital age, transforming virtual elements into physical objects.

BIO

Cédric Raccio (Switzerland, 1981) graduated in photography from the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) in 2010, and quickly began to explore the themes and aesthetics that characterize the Y generation. His projects were quickly noticed and exhibited in several galleries and festivals throughout Europe (ArtGenève, La Grenette, Sion, Galerie zur Schützenlaube, Triennale d’art contemporain du Valais, etc). Some of his series have also been published in contemporary art journals and books. By exploring the Post-Digital technique, Raccio became interested in the transformation of the digital visual experience. This approach eventually led him to create sculptures using traditional materials and techniques, while incorporating digital elements.
